The Elric brothers lost their mother when they were still very young and so they wanted to try to bring her back to life through alchemy. Unfortunately, rule number one is that to get something, you have to sacrifice something of equal value. Not only did they fail to bring their mother back to life, but Alphonse nearly lost his own, narrowly sealed in armor by Edward. You can also see the seal in the armor on this figurine, as well as many cats, because as you know, the young Alphonse adores them and sometimes hides them in his armor. In any case, this statuette is really beautiful and will delight Fullmetal Alchemist fans.
