Gintama Exhibition Part 2 - Kotaro Katsura figure, Ichibansho

In Gintama, Kotaro Katsura is one of the series’ most memorable characters, with a presence that blends gravity, nobility, and constant unpredictability. As a former comrade of Gintoki and a key figure in the anti-shogunate movement, he stands out in the story both through his apparent seriousness and through the very particular way he moves through the most absurd situations. This official Kotaro Katsura PVC figure by Bandai, from the Ichibansho line, stands approximately 10 cm tall and presents him in a more dynamic pose than the more seated versions often associated with the character.

Within the world of Gintama, Katsura holds an essential place as a revolutionary, strategist, and living remnant of the generation that fought in the war against the Amanto. His bond with Gintoki, Takasugi, and the other figures of that past gives him real depth far beyond his comic appearances. Behind the absurd detours and improbable disguises, he remains a man deeply loyal to his convictions, to his companions, and to the idea of a country he refuses to abandon. He brings to the story a rare blend of political seriousness, absurdity, and dignity, which is exactly what makes him so distinctive in the series. The figure reflects that identity well through a focused, mobile attitude immediately tied to his image as a wandering fighter.

Visually, the piece shows Katsura in a low stance, with one knee on the ground and the other leg folded forward. He wears a loose dark traditional-style outfit with wide sleeves, white visible layers at the collar, forearm, and undergarment, along with tied sandals. One hand slightly lifts a large straw hat that frames the upper part of his face, while the other holds a long pole weapon ending in an elaborate gold motif. His long black hair falls behind the shoulders, and his expression remains serious, almost stern. The overall result creates a very readable silhouette with a more martial than theatrical display presence.
