In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, The Monster Book of Monsters is the unusual textbook on magical creatures that students must first learn how to handle before they can even open it. Ugears recreates it here as a buildable wooden 3D puzzle, inspired by the notoriously unruly book known for growling, snapping and attacking anyone who approaches it the wrong way.

This mechanical model reproduces the book’s aggressive behavior with a metal spring mechanism and a strap system that locks or releases it. Once wound using the pull cord on the back, the model can move across a flat surface for up to about 200 cm while opening and closing its cover like a biting jaw. Its eyes also open just before full release, adding another animated touch inspired by the movie.

The model takes the form of a thick rectangular book with pale wooden sides engraved with fine lines suggesting stacked pages. Its dark cover is surrounded by numerous black and brown legs extending over the edges, while a strap and several mechanical elements are visible across the top. At the front, a red mouth lined with pointed teeth appears between the upper cover and the lower section, with a second row of fangs below that emphasizes its threatening look.
