The Kodama, small forest spirits from Studio Ghibli's Princess Mononoke, appear around a decorative vase designed to hold a single flower. Inspired by Hayao Miyazaki's 1997 animated film, this piece depicts two of the mysterious creatures resting on a moss-covered tree stump. The Single Flower vase combines a sculpted woodland scene with a transparent tube intended to hold a flower stem.
In Princess Mononoke, the Kodama inhabit ancient forests and symbolize their vitality. These silent little beings, recognizable by their pale bodies and distinctive head movements, appear during Ashitaka's journey through the Forest Spirit's domain. Their presence reflects the film's central themes of nature and the balance of the living world. This vase recreates part of that woodland environment through a miniature stump with a removable tube in its center, suitable for displaying a cut flower or a small branch.
The decoration features a tree stump with intertwined roots, brown wood-like surfaces and areas covered in green moss. Two pale green Kodama stand on opposite sides, each with a rounded head, dark eyes and a simplified body. One is positioned slightly higher on the left, while the other appears on the right side. A transparent cylindrical tube rises from the center of the stump, surrounded by small sculpted plant details that complete the forest-inspired setting.
