Wednesday - Thing desk tidy

Thing is one of the most iconic presences in The Addams Family universe, a franchise where the strange, the macabre, and dark humor all blend into an intentionally offbeat everyday life. Although it appears to be only a disembodied hand, it holds an immediately recognizable place in the Addams family imagery thanks to its gestures, autonomy, and discreet but constant role. This official pencil holder, produced by Blue Sky Studios, recreates that iconic silhouette in a decorative desk format measuring approximately 14.6 x 21.1 x 10.5 cm.

Within its universe, Thing is not just a living prop or an isolated comedic detail. It fully belongs to the identity of the Addams Family, with a way of moving, reacting, and interacting that makes it almost as expressive as a full character. Its charm comes from the contrast between its bizarre, almost unsettling appearance and the familiarity with which it fits into the family’s daily life. This pencil holder captures that side very well by turning the famous hand into a desk accessory while keeping the strangeness immediately tied to the character.

Visually, the object takes the shape of a severed hand resting flat, with the fingers spread wide in a very characteristic crawling pose. The pale beige surface is covered with numerous dark and reddish stitches that directly evoke the assembled look of the character, visible around the fingers, across the palm, and around the cut wrist. The top of the wrist forms the opening of the holder, allowing pencils or pens to be stored while keeping the overall silhouette immediately readable. The sculpt stays fairly realistic, with long slightly curved fingers and a low palm that gives the piece real presence on a desk or shelf. The item works both as practical storage and as a decorative collectible instantly recognizable to fans of the franchise.
